In 2010, the city of Essen, representing the whole Ruhr region, was named “European Capital of Culture” – and with good reason! This city in the “Revier” (the Ruhr heartland) is full of cultural treasures and impressive industrial history. That makes it one of the most exciting destinations for team events, company parties and events of every kind. The Ruhr’s down-to-earth charm meets peaceful green spaces, both inside and beyond the city limits.
Take in the famous Zeche Zollverein (Zollverein Coal Mine), also known as the “Eiffel Tower of the Ruhr”. On an interactive scavenger hunt through the historic industrial buildings, you and your team can share the sense of wonder and discover this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site under your own steam. The indoor venue “Grand Hall Zollverein”, at the site’s former coking plant, is also a stylish setting for team events with real character. Or do you fancy a sunny team day at Baldeneysee? The summery lakeside beach “Seaside Beach” and the festive atmosphere of the “See Bar” are distinctive spots for a fun, active team day in the warmer months. “Ruhrpott” always means “football” too. For fans of the beautiful game, a detour to the “Stadion an der Hafenstraße” is a must! In the hospitality boxes of RWE (Rot-Weiss Essen), you and your team can enjoy football tradition that’s still the real thing. If you’d like to make great food part of your event, the many exciting restaurants along the Ruhr are especially worth a look – such as “Franky’s Wasserbahnhof Mintard”. Or build a raft together at “Seaside Beach”. Then, of course, you’ll take to the water too – let’s hope the builders did a good job. For teams who’d rather keep both feet on solid ground, Essen’s lively city centre or the grounds of the historic Zeche Zollern are ideal for an exciting GPS-Rallye or iPad Rallye.
