Messe Essen - Investing in the future

Major conversion of Messe Essen

Visitors have been able to find the MESSE ESSEN exhibition grounds on Norbertstraße in Essen-Rüttenscheid since 1913. At that time, around 5,000 square meters of exhibition space were available - today the fair is one of the largest in Germany: with 110,000 m², it has the ninth largest exhibition space in Germany. Last year, the trade fair attracted around 1.4 million visitors to its 50 trade fairs and exhibitions.

Messe Essen is currently being renovated in four construction phases during ongoing operations with the aim of shortening visitor routes, offering exhibitors ideal presentation conditions with large daylight halls and bringing the equipment of the entire exhibition grounds up to the latest state of the art.

From May 2016 to October 2017, the trade fair will have a new look: the new entrance area is being built in the form of a 2000 m² glass foyer. In addition, two old exhibition halls will be demolished to make room for the new Hall 6. From October 2017 to April 2018, Halls 4, 4a and 5 will be dismantled and a new exhibition lounge and the new Service Center will be built. The third construction phase is expected to last from April to August 2018, when another five old halls will be demolished and Hall 4 will be modernized and Hall 5 extended with a new building. The final phase will then include the completion of the new Hall 5.

The conversion to one of the most modern exhibition grounds in Europe will cost around EUR 90 million. Messe Essen will then be in no way inferior to major German locations such as Deutsche Messe Hannover (358,913 m²), Messe Frankfurt (358,913 m²) and koelnmesse (284,000 m²) in terms of modern facilities, technical possibilities and comfort for visitors.
The multifunctional hall Grugahalle and the Congress Center Essen (CCE) round off the profile of MESSE ESSEN nicely with their facilities for congresses, conferences and concerts.
Incidentally, MESSE ESSEN GmbH will inform interested members of the public about the details of the conversion and the individual construction phases in the specially set up information pavilion. It is even now possible to experience the new trade fair digitally there...
