Team building – safe team events during the pandemic
Table of contents
Back to the office after working from home? German lawmakers, at least, have decided to end the requirement to work from home on 19 March 2022, heralding a return to offices across the country. Companies are making the transition gradually and responsibly, though: many still offer the option to work from home. And despite the lifting of the 3G rule, many companies continue to offer their employees testing and develop their own infection prevention plans.
Alongside these developments, demand for in-person team events is rising rapidly. In the first quarter of 2022, online events (over 95%) were still what brought teams together for shared experiences. Now, enquiries are shifting back towards in-person events. Company outings and summer parties are popular, as are activities alongside conferences. What makes these events special – for us too – is that they are often the first post-COVID reunion, sometimes with new colleagues who have only met on Zoom and Teams calls so far. The exception, of course, is teams spread across different locations, often internationally, who still appreciate the convenience of our online events. We cook, drum or take part in quizzes together with Americans, Swedes and staff from German sites, all on the same call. “The past two years have shown very clearly that this works well,” reflects Amit Lal, founder of the Essen-based event agency.
Team-building events: we’re back – safely
Balancing our customers’ wish to share experiences with our duty of care as event organisers is a challenge. To meet it, we work together to develop hygiene and infection prevention plans that go beyond the legal requirements of the German states’ COVID-19 protection regulations (CoronaSchVO). Alongside preventing infection, we focus on what each participant needs to feel safe. For example, we arrange entry checks or an on-site mobile testing station, because the safety of everyone involved is our highest priority.
